1. Where’s the usual myBibleLesson?

It’s still here! This is a special myBibleLesson prototype that we’re using to try out a new idea. We know many people today — especially youth — are reading on mobile devices, so we decided to see what myBibleLesson might look like if we built it with a mobile device in mind.

2. If this is for mobile devices, can I still read the myBibleLesson prototype on a laptop or desktop computer?

This version of myBibleLesson can certainly be viewed on a laptop or desktop computer, but it works best on a mobile device, like a smartphone or tablet. On larger screens, some parts may not look or work quite as intended. You can also download the PDF (see Question #3).

3. Is there still a printable or PDF version that I can view or download?

There is, and it looks new, too! Tap “Menu” in the top-left corner of the screen, then tap “Download PDF.”

4. I know some people who would love this version of myBibleLesson. Can I share it with them?

Absolutely! Please feel free to share this prototype with family and friends. We’d love their input as well.

5. What’s the “Menu” on the top left of the screen?

The menu in the top left-hand corner allows you to customize your myBibleLesson experience with different styles and formats. To access this feature, simply tap the three lines with “Menu” underneath.

6. What’s the “Lesson Only” button in the top center of the screen?

The “Lesson Only” button allows you to quickly show or hide the non-lesson content (Bible information, alternate translations, and illustrations). If you wish to see only the text from the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, tap the button to “On.” This will hide the non-lesson content, although word definitions will still be available. Tap it again to “Off,” and the non-lesson content will reappear.

7. All I can see is the text of the Bible Lesson. Where did the icons and other content go?

Check if the “Lesson Only” button in the top-center of your screen is set to “ON.” If it is, tap it to turn it off. You should be able to see the icons and additional content now.

8. Everywhere I go in the lesson, there’s a colorful indicator in the top-right corner of the screen that tells me which section I’m in. Why?

If you tap on the colorful location text in the top-right corner, you can quickly jump to a specific spot in the lesson. This is great for returning to where you left off or getting back to an idea you found earlier.

9. Why is some of the text blue?

Blue text shows you additional content about this text. Citation references are blue because they link to Concord Express, which shows you the citation in context. In citation text, if one or two words are blue, tapping will bring up a definition. Tap anywhere to make it disappear. If an entire verse or passage of text is blue, look for a content icon below; tap it for more information about that text.

10. What’s the square icon with a “B” or an “I” in the middle?

Tapping on a square icon with a “B” below a Bible citation will bring up information related to the Bible text above. Tapping an icon with an “I” will bring up an alternate translation for the Bible passage in blue above the icon.

11. Where is Snakey?

Snakey and the familiar myBibleLesson cartoons can still be found in the regular myBibleLesson issues. We’ve included some new images and illustrations in this issue. Let us know what you think!

12. Can I make the text larger or smaller?

You can! If you tap “Menu” in the top-left corner of the screen, you’ll see three sizes of the letter “A” — small, medium, and large. Just pick the one that works best for you.

13. Are there other color schemes I can choose?

Yes, there are! If you tap on the “Menu” in the top-left corner of the screen, you’ll see four different color palettes. Try them out until you find your favorite!

14. What are the different lesson formats in the menu?

The text of the Bible Lesson always stays the same, but there are three choices of how to view the additional content:

  • in “Lesson Only” mode all of the additional content and icons are hidden so only the text of the Bible Lesson is displayed;
  • in “Collapsed” all of the icons will be visible, but they must be tapped to reveal their content;
  • in “Expanded” all of the additional content is immediately visible.

15. Some of the images have social media icons, but they just take me to a page with the same image. How do I share them?

This is a prototype, so the social media icons are just placeholders. However, if you press and hold on the image on a smartphone or tablet, you can save or share it with the options on your device.

16. I think something isn’t working correctly. How can I let you know?

If you find something wrong, we would love to hear from you right away! Please call us at 617-450-2000 or email us at contact@mybiblelesson.com.

17. I'm having trouble getting the PDF to print properly. Is there something wrong with the file?

To print the PDF, we recommend that you save it to your computer first and print it through Adobe Reader (which can be downloaded for free here). The PDF software in browsers is good for viewing but unreliable for printing.

18. Is this what myBibleLesson will look like in the future?

We don’t know yet. We’re exploring this as a possibility, but we want to do what best supports youth in connecting to the Bible Lesson.

19. If I really like this version of myBibleLesson or I have ideas about how to make it better, how can I share my thoughts with you?

At the very top of the myBibleLesson prototype, you’ll find a link to our survey. We’d love to read your input!
